| Q. |
Do
I have to change my sources for ViaNova 3000 to work? |
| A. |
In
contrast with other e3000 migration solutions, ViaNova 3000 doesn't
require any changes at all in your COBOL, Pascal, IMAGE and VPlus
sources. SPL source code may require substitution of a few language
constructs. |
| Q. |
What happens to source code
comments during migration? |
| A. |
All comments in
COBOL, Pascal, Fortran and SPL are retained, ensuring prolonged maintainability of the sources. |
| Q. |
Which
VPlus features do I lose after migration? |
| A. |
None.
edWin/3K retains all VPlus user aspects during migration and emulates
them on the new platform. On the contrary, a whole series of new features
becomes available after migration. On the API-level, all functions
are available except for VBLOCKREAD
and VBLOCKWRITE. |
| Q. |
What is the end-result of a TurboImage conversion? |
| A. |
A migration to HP-Eloquence produces an Image-on-Open-Systems database, with
identical features and utilities.
A migration to Ordat's ti2SQL produces a TurboImage emulation inside
an RDBMS of choice. |
| Q. |
What happens to the data in my TurboImage database? |
| A. |
The data is migrated automatically using the native toolset of the
chosen database migration product. This ensures that the data is correct
and fits into the new database. |
| Q. |
Will
my TurboImage environment remain unchanged? |
| A. |
When seen from inside your applications, the answer is Yes.
However, if you use third-party database management and query tools
that are not available on the target platform, they will need to be
replaced. |
| Q. |
Do I have to change my other e3000 data files? |
| A. |
No. All native MPE data files are migrated automatically to compatible formats and
accessed through MPUX functions. MPUX ensures that your applications won't notice the
difference. |
| Q. |
After
a migration, do I still have to pay for ViaNova 3000? |
| A. |
No.
The migration itself is a one-shot affair. The supporting products
(i.e. MPUX, edWin, ...) are sold and licensed like regular software.
Optional support contracts are available at standard rates. |
| Q. |
Is there an Itanium version of MPUX & edWin/3K? |
| A. |
Not Yet..
Support for Itanium machines is planned for 2004. However, an integrated ViaNova 3000
migration solution is available for any platform on the market. |
